Current State:
With VITAL, Virginia is just beginning the development of its comprehensive international strategy. With little previous formal cooperation between state agencies, and with no input from Virginia's private sector, new policy issues created by the ever-changing business environment have not been addressed.

Issues Facing Virginia:
• Virginia should investigate areas of possible improvement with regard to international trade and investment, including such issues as incentives for the exporters/importers, funding of international initiatives, etc.

Task Force Goals:
• Identify areas to improve private sector input regarding the state government's international activities.

• With input from the private sector, remove barriers to international trade by prudently shaping state policy to create more opportunity.

Illustrating the Value:
Changing business conditions require changing policies to remain competitive. VITAL provides an opportunity to look at what Virginia needs now, and in the future, to compete in a global economy.
