Where We Are Now:
- Indian imports of American goods exceeded $10 billion in 2006; their exports to the United States were $18.7 billion. In 2006, Virginia exports to India were valued at $93 million—an increase of more than 15% from the year before.
- The Port of Virginia has established India-Norfolk service with 18 lines.
- There are 26 Indian firms that have established themselves in Virginia.
Where We Can Be:
- Virginia exports to India double.
- Port of Virginia increases volume of traffic to and from India.
- There are 50 new Indian companies announced by 2012, including at least five manufacturers.
2008 Initiatives:
- Continue to seek resources for the establishment of state representatives in India.
- Introduce India as a theme at the annual Virginia Conference on World Trade.
