"There are new worlds of commerce and economic opportunity demanding our innovation and activity. VITAL is helping Virginia to reach those new worlds and opportunities."
In 2007, Virginia’s government and business leaders identified the 10 most pressing international economic development issues. Through VITAL, they are devoted to removing obstacles to foreign trade, while at the same time offering businesses the protection and support that they need and expect from state government.
As a result of the work by the VITAL task forces in 2007, the alliance is working to implement 18 initiatives in 2008 to fuel Virginia’s international economic engine to drive trade, investment and job creation.
Together, the 2007 VITAL task forces proposed some 60 recommendations for Virginia to achieve its short- and long-term international goals.
Of the recommendations, 30 required only minimal funding and likely could be accomplished by existing VITAL members and/or VEDP/VPA staff.
The other 30 required varying monetary commitments making them cost prohibitive at this time. In order to focus resources more efficiently and drive progress, the VITAL steering committee determined 18 initiatives for 2008.

Problems aren’t solved by one organization or one way of thinking. The toughest challenges – the ones that present significant growth opportunities – are solved by tapping a broad cross-section of creative and experienced individuals with different ideas, insights and experiences.
That’s why VITAL’s success relies on active participation from Virginia’s business leaders. If you have an interest or expertise in one of our areas of interest, then consider joining VITAL.
