Highlights: Emerging Markets
Where We Are:
- Emerging markets represent a substantial opportunity for Virginia; however, these markets can be volatile due to economic, political, social and demographic considerations.
- Virginia already has some state resources devoted to promoting international trade, including programs to promote trade and investment.
Where We Can Be:
- Virginia improves its focus on emerging markets by continuing to support international trade programs, establishing relationships with business leaders in emerging markets, and educating Virginia officials on the potential that emerging markets represent.
- The Commonwealth plays a significant role in identifying emerging markets, and identifying their risks.
2008 Initiatives:
- Develop and maintain a composite matrix for emerging markets that contains meaningful metrics. Share that matrix with VITAL membership quarterly.
- Add emerging markets as a forum/report at the annual Virginia Conference on World Trade.
